Dentures, sometimes known as false teeth, are removable replacements for missing teeth. They can be made of acrylic or metal and are custom made to fit well and feel comfortable on your gums.
Complete dentures are used when all of your teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when you still have some natural teeth remaining.
At LS1 Dental, we aim to provide you with a natural looking denture that helps improve the appearance of your smile, giving you back the confidence to bite and chew comfortably. We’re proud to be able to help you enjoy your smile again.
Are there alternatives to dentures?
One of the most effective alternatives to removable dentures is strong and durable dental implants. The implants can hold a denture firmly in place, or be used to attach permanent replacement teeth to, which function just as natural teeth do.
How are dentures made?
The whole process takes about three to six weeks and several appointments. After an initial consultation where we will decide the best type of denture for you, the treatment steps are as follows.
We make a series of impressions and measurements of your jaw, including how your jaws relate to one another and how much space is between them.
We then create models, wax forms and/or plastic patterns in the exact shape and position of the denture to be created. You will try this model several times to check the fit is correct, and the model will be assessed for colour and shape before the final denture is cast.
When the final denture is ready, we fit it in your mouth, ensuring it fits correctly and feels comfortable. We make adjustments as necessary until we are both happy.
